Top 5 reasons why Google+ is a hit in Egypt

Google+ is spreading fast in Egypt, unexpectedly and unlike Buzz (Google's previous attempt at creating a social network). It reminds me of Gmail's days when it was in beta and people were going crazy over invitations. The network's growth is astounding and looks like it could be a serious threat to facebook. Here are the top reasons why I think Google+ is gaining ground

  1. It copied everything facebook had and added even more features:  Google+ is a copycat of Facebook in so many ways, it's so similar that they've actually copied the search feature of facebook, friends suggestion, the news stream, the notifications bar..... the list goes on
  2. It's not complicated: Well that really carries on from the previous point, but Google found that Facebook's interface is good enough and simple enough for the regular user, so they just applied it to their own network. Google's last attempt at building a social network (or a next gen e-mail system) was with Wave, which left people rather confused for how weird it was, despite the fact that it had some very handy features.
  3. Circles... most preferable feature: What Google's done differently from Facebook is sharing, the whole idea of having different news streams for different circles of people and sharing different content with different circles is just brilliant and I can see how handy it could be.
  4. It's integrated with your google account: Buzz looked great on paper for being integrated with Gmail and maps, but people found no point in using it, they have twitter and it has hashtags. With Googel+ though, Google added this new bar with notifications included with different links to google products. A handy feature for when you're writing a new document on Google Docs and a new notification pops up
  5. it's STABLE... well at least for now: Aside from the notification incident that happened a week ago, where people had their notifications being received over and over, Google+ is really clean and with a few bumps. Compare for example the famous Google talk (the one you find in Gmail) with facebook chat and you'll see what I mean
So bottom line...

Google is an innovative company and I can see sparks of new features that show some serious potential. Speaking of Sparks, I really like that feature too, it's like a google alerts system embedded right in Google+ and you can directly share any of the news with any of your circles. Hangouts is another great feature that easily beat facebook's video chat (think stability and 8 participants in a call), but I don't think it's what brought Egyptians to try the service.
